World famous Swiss Chocolate comes with a face (or two) at Schober Chocolate shop in Zürich!
What Day Is It Anyway?
Our second day in Zürich caught up with me — I completely crashed. The morning was slow and quiet as I stayed back to rest and Marc figured out the train system and sent one our bags ahead to Bern, to pick up later.
In the afternoon I was ready to walk about the city and we found a nice spot for lunch.
Our Swiss friends recommended Schober Chocolate, so we found the little shop in Zürich's Old Town. Thursday, the owner's wife greeted us and recounted to us their history in English with a heavy German accent. She claimed they were among the top 10 chocolatiers in the world, and they just celebrated their 150th Anniversary. But, business is tough and it is hard to compete with mass-produced chocolates from companies such as Lindt. But she and her husband love the work.
It was a warm day so I told her we'd be back Friday to buy.
On Friday, we were greeted by her husband, the owner and a fine-art painter responsible for the artwork on their boxes. Incredible work, not just on the art, but the chocolates as well.
I asked him if he'd sign one of his boxes for me. With a puzzled but proud look, he paused, then said, "this is highly unusual." He proceeded to the kitchen to find a pen, then signed my box with a flourish. I could tell, we just made his day.
