We planned on being in Lugano during their Fall Festival, where local farmers and wineries and producers of all sorts of goods have booths to display their products. The opening of the Festival was marked by the Lugano Municipal Corps marching through the city streets to the Municipal building where the mayor spoke.
Below is a sample of the many local musicians scattered throughout the city gifting the people with their talents. After 10 pm, the crowds were too thick to walk, but nobody seemed to mind; bottles in one hand, a friend in the other, and rhythms to keep everyone swaying and dancing.
Lugano is this great little city right on a lake. Before traveling, I spent months on Duolingo learning German in preparation for the trip, now I am in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland and I have to consciously NOT use German. On the plus side, the Italian-Swiss seem to be more capable in English (in our encounters so far). In fact, most of those we've interacted with speak with enough fluency to have funny, joke-filled conversations. Right up my alley.
Diane and Esthi were like peas in a pod, and explored the market booths with vigor. Hans Peter and I determined that there is very little room for men's clothing in street markets. It's either woman's clothing or beer. Guesss where the guys are.
For Lynn, we are in Chocolate paradise. Seriously. Below I discovered "Shokolade Densa" or thick, molten chocolate. Almost like a cross between a mousse and a hot chocolate, but not too sweet. My expression says it all: I was in heaven.
