Our friends' home is in Wichtrach, South of Bern.
The Jungfrau region, with spectacular views.
Above, heading up to the top of the mountain in the Grindelwald area.
It was awesome re-connecting with our Swiss friends after so many years. Piti and Esthi drove us from the bus terminal to the mountains in their brand new electric car. It was a breathtaking adventure with epic views.
When planning our trip to Switzerland, we decided to go on paths less traveled. The Interlaken, Jungfrau and Lauterbraun region are post-card worthy, but very popular with tourists, so I sadly crossed this area off our list.
Then to our pleasant surprise, found that this was our first destination with the Weiss' before a monster storm was to arrive Sunday afternoon. Enjoy the pix below.
Happy Birthday Kedric! We started celebrating your birthday 9 hours earlier than you did. In the morning, I had to remind mom that she couldn't text you yet... it was still the 19th.
Yesterday we took our first train ride, from Zürich to Bern. The trip was smooth and comfortable, and I loved watching the countryside roll by. It’s a great way to travel. At the station, our friends Hans Peter and Esthi welcomed us with hugs and smiles.
They took us straight up to the mountains — one of their favorite places. The views were breathtaking: clear skies, fresh air, and the sun shining. We rode a cable car up, walked about an hour down the trails to a cozy restaurant for lunch, then descended again by steep, cogwheel train.
Hans Peter and Esthi’s home is full of heart and love. Esthi is an artist and her sweet expressions are everywhere. We feel deeply welcomed here.
On my morning run I came upon this tiny home in the woods with a tribute to the famous Route 66 in the Southwest.
I am so far from home, but I was reminded of how small our world really is.
Did someone steal your license plate? I may know where to find it.
The peak behind Diane, the Lauberhorn, is known as the longest and one of the most demanding courses on the World Cup circuit.
